Hosts Introduction and Show Praise
00:00:40
zuuuuu
Welcome back to another episode of Innovation Deliberation, podcast where you take action animation and cartoon seriously. And as you can tell, not too seriously, we're your host, I'm Zuher.
00:00:50
J Scoots
And I'm Jay Scottie, the flame bird St. Clair.
00:00:52
zuuuuu
you And as you can tell, we're coming back from the Daily Planet to give you guys our thoughts and reviews on my adventures of Superman season two. Man, I love this show.
00:01:05
zuuuuu
This is just top tier anime for me.
00:01:08
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. It's the best of both worlds. It's the DC animation that we love so much and the character of Superman being portrayed the way that he should be.
00:01:19
J Scoots
uh, in all the light and positivity and optimism, but not without, you know, some gravitas and some, uh, some emotional stakes. So yeah, yeah, I, I, I loved all the references to the comics. I love the developments of the characters. I love the references to other animes, just another great season of a great show.
00:01:37
zuuuuu
Oh, absolutely. It's something that I wish that we could get like
Deep Dive into Storytelling and Character Development
00:01:40
zuuuuu
more often. And I went down a little bit of a deep dive because even after last season, I was sharing the sentiment of just that the the storytelling and the writing and delivery and animation and all of it is so tucked here.
00:01:51
zuuuuu
It's like this is the animated multiverse that I want.
00:01:54
zuuuuu
Like I want these same makers to make a Batman Joe and a Green Lantern Joe and a Wonder Woman Joe and like give me the these are the people who should be making Justice League for me.
00:02:04
zuuuuu
and of course the first response that I got on Reddit was along the lines of like Superman finally has time to breathe as a character and get the development that he deserves.
00:02:15
zuuuuu
Like we do as much as the references are fun, we don't need like the the big super or the big Justice League stuff rushing to him. Just like, fine, you have a point. I'll enjoy the beauty that I'm already getting.
00:02:29
J Scoots
Yeah, one of the things I really appreciate about the show as well, it's giving all this time to the development of not only Superman, but Clark Kent. I think this is one of the shows that we've actually been able to spend the most time with Clark as Clark. It does all that while really helping to build out the universe and the world as well, because yeah, this is a strictly Superman and his best friend show.
00:02:49
J Scoots
But we were already getting so much set up for various corners of the DC universe, which I can't help but kind of hold out hope with like, you know, the little tidbits that we're getting regarding James Gunn's Superman. It sounds like it's a Superman movie, but that is set in a lived in world. I'm hoping James takes a page out of the series books.
00:03:09
J Scoots
book And I'm hoping that they they have a similar tone and aesthetic. They don't need to be exactly the same because that's kind of boring.
00:03:16
J Scoots
But if he's taking inspiration, I think that'd be a ah ah great a great source of inspiration for
Discussion on Future DC Projects and Inspirations
00:03:22
zuuuuu
Yeah, he's already been open and saying that he's been taking inspiration from Young Justice and that's arguably one of my favorite depictions of Superman along with the Superman that was in
00:03:34
zuuuuu
the Supergirl CW series, which is funny, I like that character so much and the way the actor portrays him, I still haven't seen Superman of Lois.
00:03:44
zuuuuu
Maybe there's something about him being a side character that I enjoy, my two favorite depictions are when I don't see too much of him.
00:03:51
zuuuuu
but yeah, I still have like, uh, let's, what's the phrase I'm cautiously optimistic for James Gunn, Superman.
00:03:58
zuuuuu
But, the way that i mean it's like, clearly we can do it right.
00:04:02
zuuuuu
Right. Like the options are there.
00:04:05
zuuuuu
yeah, just, we'll see what comes out of that.
00:04:08
J Scoots
Yeah. And i i'll I'll be honest, I did not do a rewatch of season one as much as I would have liked to.
00:04:13
J Scoots
And, uh, you know, fully acknowledging we're a little late to the game too. I think, season three, or excuse me, season two wrapped up a couple of months ago where with the first season, I think we covered like every single episode where we did it in like batches of three or something like that.
00:04:27
J Scoots
Uh, we're a little late to the game this time and that's not because I didn't enjoy it.
00:04:30
J Scoots
It was just the sheer amount of stuff airing over the summer. i just I think that's, I'll be honest, I think that's when I started watching Delicious and Dungeon. And that took priority for me for a couple
Season 2 Surprises and Plot Twists
00:04:40
J Scoots
of weeks there. But all that being said, I was trying to think back on where season one left us off. And one of the things I remember thinking is that I felt like they were setting up Zod.
00:04:51
J Scoots
And that was one of the things I was kind of pleasantly surprised about with this season. I did not really see Supergirl's inclusion happening. And then I still, for a long time, didn't didn't suspect that Brainiac was going to be the big bad. So you know pretty early on in the show, but it's already I'd say more so than Brainiac.
00:05:11
J Scoots
I really appreciate the inclusion of of Supergirl because where we leave off in this season, it feels like it's this really great quartet. You've got Lois and Clark. And then Jimmy, who was, I mean, he was a great third wheel, but there was, there was an episode last season that fully acknowledged the fact that he had become a third wheel.
00:05:27
J Scoots
So now that he has his romantic interest and the fact that it's know this version of Kara that's feisty, but also like really sweet and kind of naive to the the workings of a world that hasn't been dominated by her warlord father.
00:05:42
zuuuuu
I'm actually trying to figure out who the villain was. Like, who was the finale villain?
00:05:46
J Scoots
Oh, last season?
Future Podcast Episodes and Format
00:05:50
zuuuuu
Was it Lois Lane's dad and...
00:05:51
J Scoots
I think it ended up being, it was a collection of a collection of the villains he had fought during the course of season one. And then I think it was a parasite.
00:06:02
J Scoots
Yeah. a Parasite was like the, he became basically a kaiju rampaging through the city.
00:06:06
zuuuuu
yeah Okay, yeah. I remember the kaiju, but obviously because we like saw it in season two as well. But I don't know why I thought that was like in the middle of the season.
00:06:15
zuuuuu
But yeah, I mean, we've we've also said like this is pretty much going to be like the new format of the show. It's it's going to be more season reviews. Maybe we'll get like a ah ah finale or a premiere or something in when we can.
00:06:28
zuuuuu
So this is just the way it is. But yeah, this this was a fun show and to binge. You mentioned Delicious and Dungeon. That was the show that we were supposed to cover this week, but my dumbass thought that it was 10 episodes.
00:06:40
zuuuuu
So when I got to episode 10 and saw that there was another 14, I was like, yeah, there's no way I'm going to be able to finish this before recording time.
00:06:44
J Scoots
yeah Uh, I remember, no, no, no, you're you're good.
00:06:49
J Scoots
And I remember before you made that discovery, when you told me, you were like, I only have one or two episodes to go. I was like, wow. I was like, I knew I flew through it, but you are really flying through the show.
00:06:59
zuuuuu
and it was right after telling you that I was like savoring it and trying not to watch too much like this was me thinking it's because there's only 10 episodes it's just like I don't want to watch like too much yet and then I ended up watching like a couple episodes of my adventure Superman and my travels and stuff
00:07:08
J Scoots
Sure. Sure. Sure.
00:07:15
zuuuuu
Uh, so there was only like five, I had like about half of it done. by the time I had made that realization, so I was like, okay, there isn't too much to catch up on.
00:07:25
zuuuuu
so I'm glad we were still able to record this week, but delicious and dungeon is still set for a future recording.
00:07:31
zuuuuu
also you told me off air that Vox Machina is getting its
Upcoming Show Reviews and Social Media Reminders
00:07:35
zuuuuu
season three. So, you want to give more details on what we may expect from that.
00:07:42
J Scoots
Yeah, that's going to be season three of Vox Machina is going to be premiering in early October. I want to say October six. Don't quote me on that. It's either October six or third.
00:07:51
J Scoots
so yeah, I, uh, I went to dragon con recently and, uh, got to reconnect with friend of the show, Jeff Randall. And one of the things that just kind of struck me is we were walking around seeing all this cosplay and he was like, there's someone from Vox Machina.
00:08:05
J Scoots
There's someone from Vox Machina. And i I recognize these characters, but his recall, to like know their names and their backstories and everything like that. I was like, oh, we got to have him on to to talk some some Vox Machina.
00:08:15
J Scoots
So we're going to do like a season one, season two primer ahead of season three. And then we'll probably just you know talk about season three either as a whole or maybe in halves or something like that. so
00:08:27
zuuuuu
Yeah, so to confirm it is Season 1 of Season 3, Episode 1 of Season 3 will be airing October 3rd. This is on Prime Video. Yeah, it'll be super fun to have him on the show.
00:08:39
zuuuuu
He's always just such a goddamn delight.
00:08:43
zuuuuu
And yeah, we'll just see kind of how the how the show goes. Maybe we could just do like a halfway mark or do it as a whole. It'd be cool if we at least did like the, the, like a premiere episode.
00:08:55
zuuuuu
so we'll have more details.
00:08:56
zuuuuu
Keep an eye on our social media. Instagram is probably the one that we keep up and update the most.
00:09:02
zuuuuu
Uh, so once we have better answers for that. will definitely hear from us in regards to that schedule. So those are the two big shows that are upcoming. If there's anything else that needs to be on our radar that you guys want to hear more about, then feel free to email us on animation deliberation podcast at gmo.com or DM us on Instagram or message us on Facebook, whether it's through our animation deliberation page or if you want to at Zuher or Jay Scottie in the stranded panda chat on the Facebook group.
00:09:34
zuuuuu
Did I miss anything?
00:09:36
J Scoots
No, I don't think so. you You did your
Favorite Moments and Character Highlights
00:09:38
J Scoots
due diligence. I appreciate you fact-checking me on the dates there. The only other thing that came to mind was just off the top of the head there. I may do a review of the new season of Futurama at some point.
00:09:51
J Scoots
So that'll be that'll probably be just me impromptu.
00:09:55
zuuuuu
I don't think I ever told you that I have been binging solar opposites as well. I am like halfway through, halfway through season three?
00:09:58
J Scoots
Oh, no, you didn't. You didn't mention. Okay, that's great. That's awesome.
00:10:03
J Scoots
Yeah, very good.
00:10:03
zuuuuu
Yeah, it's been entertaining. I did not expect that much storytelling of shrunken people.
00:10:09
J Scoots
oh o yeah Uh, yeah, the wall, the wall sometimes is like the appeal of the show. It's like, okay, it's great to see the opposites doing their thing, but let's get back to the wall.
00:10:09
zuuuuu
That's, I thought it would be a whole show of its own, but yeah.
00:10:20
J Scoots
And then, uh, I won't spoil too much for you, but if you're in season three, it sounds like you're getting close to the point where not only do you have the wall side story, but there's going to be another, uh, spinoff kind of side story that you get.
00:10:33
J Scoots
Yeah, but it's, it's, it's all good. You're going to enjoy it. If you're enjoying the show that much, Yeah. I know I mentioned that Jay and I might talk about the new season, but at this point, I'm not sure. I don't know where he's at with it and I'd have to like do a complete rewatch of the most recent season at this point, but we'll see.
00:10:49
zuuuuu
So for what is into a new season four or okay and it's concluded already.
00:10:52
J Scoots
I think it's, I think five was the most recent season. Yeah. No, no, no. I think it's, it's, they're going to have another season. I'm pretty sure it's been renewed. Yeah.
00:11:02
zuuuuu
Oh, so it's coming up soon.
00:11:04
J Scoots
They just, uh, there was a new season that came out like a month ago.
00:11:04
zuuuuu
Like it's going to be airing soon. New season fully came out a month. Okay.
00:11:09
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. It's one of those shows that drops all of them at once. Yeah.
00:11:14
J Scoots
Yeah. Uh, do you want to circle back to my adventures for just a second?
00:11:19
J Scoots
I wanted to ask you, uh, like what were some of your favorite, like gags? If, if you had any, cause one of my favorite ones was Jimmy Olsen's net worth, how it slowly just like went down throughout the season.
00:11:33
zuuuuu
Yeah, that was definitely entertaining to keep up with.
00:11:36
zuuuuu
Because you like, you just forget, like, I forgot about him getting like that deal and being out of a department. So I'm glad that they like pushed it as much as they did.
00:11:45
zuuuuu
yeah, I don't know if I had a favorite Yeah, the one with Lois' is dad just kind of like shitting on Clark was kind of entertaining because the ongoing thing was like, where is he?
00:11:58
zuuuuu
He should be protecting you and hanging out with you when I never see him in these situations and blah, blah, blah.
00:12:04
zuuuuu
That's one of the things that's like it's overdone, but it was still entertaining at the same time.
00:12:07
J Scoots
Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just having like your girlfriend's dad have to room with you. That's such a trope, but it's done so well and creates just such great comedy.
00:12:18
zuuuuu
And these poor dudes are in a studio apartment with bunk beds as it is, like...
00:12:22
J Scoots
Yeah. And I love the fact that like Sam Lane is such a smart and astute guy, but he still hasn't put together the guy that he's like living with his Superman.
00:12:31
J Scoots
Yeah, that's good.
00:12:32
zuuuuu
Yeah, and throughout the series they still haven't made that realization.
00:12:36
J Scoots
help Oh, yep. Very true. Very true.
00:12:38
zuuuuu
But yeah, in terms of delivery, that was kind of like the big thing that I really wanted to touch on before we got into the storytelling is we've praised the fight choreography, we've praised the animation, and we have praised these voice actors a lot, but I don't think we've praised them enough because
00:12:54
zuuuuu
I feel like the top tier thing of the show is the delivery of the dialogue. like the The scripting and the screenwriting and everything is phenomenal, but none of that matters if you can't capture the delivery of it and the essence of it and the emotion.
00:13:08
zuuuuu
The comedy is always on point. The serious conversations always hit you in the fields.
Episode Analysis and Animation Quality Discussion
00:13:12
zuuuuu
The sad parts always like get you to kind of like really engage with what's happening on the scene. I just cannot praise them enough with how with how strong, strong, strong the delivery of all of their dialogue has been over two seasons. like They always deserve an applause for that.
00:13:30
J Scoots
Oh yeah. Yeah. No, I'm a, I'm a strong proponent for giving credit where credit's due. So, uh, we had, you're right. We have not mentioned them enough. So I think Jack Quaid has gotten a lot of love for his portrayal of Clark Kent and Kalel. Uh, Alice Lee as Lois Lane is doing a standup job. I will say Ishmael Saheed as Jimmy Olsen. I think he's not getting enough credit for the, the heart and the comedy and just the, one of the, one of my favorite things about this version of Jimmy is how he's just, he'll make friends with anyone. Like even at this point, it seems like he and Lex.
00:14:00
J Scoots
are like almost on friendly terms at this point. More so, I think, from Lex's perspective than his. But yeah, it's just great. Speaking of Lex, who we got, Max Mittleman as Alex, Lex Luthor, he also voiced Hank Hinshaw.
00:14:16
J Scoots
He voiced Joseph Martin, AKA the Atomic Skull, which is a great call-out because that was that character with like the skull and the the glowing green radio activity happening around it.
00:14:25
J Scoots
I just assumed that character was Blight. until I learned otherwise. the The Batman character, Blight, but I guess, you know, Superman has his own a villain that's very similar in in the atomic skull. But it also makes me think of Matalo, who, this this was like a new, this was a different interpretation of Matalo, but I love seeing Matalo because I'm just gonna date myself here a little bit, but in the mid 2000s, Game Informer, the gaming magazine, I remember they, I would get it once a month and they would always have like these feature stories where like in the middle of the, magazine it would always be on the cover. In the middle of the magazine, they would devote like a good six pages to covering some big release that was coming out. And there was this Superman game that was supposed to come out. I think it was right.
00:15:12
J Scoots
right before like the Arkham Asylum games came out. So it was like decent graphics. It was supposed to be like an open world metropolis and whatever, but the big bad was going to be a metallic, like this giant towering green metallic skull thing.
00:15:24
J Scoots
And the game never came out. I don't, I don't know exactly what happened to it, but it, like, got lost in development hell, and I remember being very sad that I never got to play that and experience that. So, I've always held out hope that, you know, with all these big screen supermen that have been making their their way into theaters, that we would eventually get him a metallo.
00:15:42
J Scoots
And, you know, hopefully with him popping up in this show, at least he's in he's in the zeitgeist, he's people are aware of him. we can I can still hold out hope, I suppose.
00:15:52
zuuuuu
You telling me there's a chance?
00:15:54
J Scoots
yeah Don't give me hope.
00:15:56
zuuuuu
I think the last Superman video game I played just to date myself a lot as well as Sega Genesis, the death of Superman game.
00:16:07
J Scoots
Did you play injustice?
00:16:10
J Scoots
Oh, okay. Yeah. That's not like a Superman game forthright, but I really did like both of those games, uh, injustice and injustice too.
00:16:17
zuuuuu
I don't know I've just never been a huge fan of like those the 2d fighter games where you can only go like left right type of things I don't know if it's just getting frustrated with it or what it was but yeah just as as much hype as the injustice games had it just couldn't get into it because of that format
00:16:22
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. I get it.
00:16:33
J Scoots
Uh, no, I totally get it. Uh, especially I think it depends on who you're playing with. Like I would pretty much play by myself just to get the story. Cause anytime you play online, there are just those people that are like, they memorize every combo and it's just not even fun.
00:16:47
zuuuuu
Yeah. Nah, I'm not a huge fan of PvP in general.
00:16:50
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I, yeah, I tend to be more of a narrative experience gamer rather than looking for that competitive competitive edge.
00:17:00
zuuuuu
Absolutely. Another name I want to drop is Kiana Madera. She is the one who voiced Supergirl and did a phenomenal job.
00:17:07
J Scoots
Oh yeah. Yeah. Great.
00:17:09
zuuuuu
I had the whole list up.
Character Arcs and Plot Points Analysis
00:17:13
zuuuuu
did not know that, not that I know who this guy is, apologies, but Byron Mark Newsom did John Irons and Silas Stone.
00:17:24
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yep. That's a yeah. Steel and cyborg's father.
00:17:24
zuuuuu
And they popped up in the same episode.
00:17:32
zuuuuu
yeah i was as soon as they had that name drop i was like sal trump oh oh like did we get the kid in the picture really too it's like that's one of the things like they keep making so many references that it's like i just i just love this series so much like can one one can we have like a year-round thing like when superman ends batman starts and batman ends and we can do a green lantern i don't know i keep like the fact that i actually want a green lantern show is saying so much
00:17:32
J Scoots
Proctor Silas stone.
00:17:55
J Scoots
Oh, yeah, no, definitely, definitely now.
00:17:58
zuuuuu
All right, so my ADHD will take me all over the place. Do you want to fixate on a certain story or topic or?
00:18:04
J Scoots
i don At this point, I don't know if we necessarily need to. It's just kind of a loose flowing conversation.
00:18:09
J Scoots
But much as I like the show, one, it's not even really a specific nitpick, but I will say if I'm comparing it to season one, The episode of season one that like really stands out to me is like, whoo, this show is firing on all cylinders was the Mr. Mixie Spitalik episode.
00:18:27
J Scoots
And I don't think a single episode this season reached those heights. If there was one that came close, it was it was the episode where Kara was taking Clark to various planets, including Thanagar.
00:18:40
zuuuuu
That's my favorite of the thud.
00:18:40
J Scoots
where she exists. Yeah, I mean, it was it was great, like the the pathos for her character to not only realize she's been manipulated and lied to, but that she was directly responsible for the decimation of entire civilizations. Yeah, that's that's palpable stuff.
00:18:55
zuuuuu
yeah and we got to see so many versions of her in that episode too it's like the warrior and the teenager that's just being giddy over stuff that she's collected and the person who's craving for a family so it's like between the mind wipe and her finding her own personality also arguing with like
00:19:20
zuuuuu
what's expected of her as a person.
00:19:23
zuuuuu
There was so much inner conflict and to portray all those versions and like split seconds of each other. like There was even points in the animation where as they were walking, you can see her eyes changing.
00:19:34
zuuuuu
like There's times where they had the close-ups, but they were like even from far back, like you would see both of them like walking down the ship or something together, and you could see the eyes change from one to the other.
00:19:43
zuuuuu
like The fact that they took the time to animate something that small was incredible so to see all of that and the relationship with superman like that was the first bit of sibling interactions that both of them had had it was so cute she's like oh you have a crush and he's a piece of what now and like all those engagements and then going back to the serious talk and her finding out that the robot actually isn't her dad and the realization of what she actually did like just everything about that episode was just
00:20:14
zuuuuu
It was so rich and diverse. it was like i I agree that it was it was definitely the best episode of the season.
00:20:22
J Scoots
Yeah, I think so.
00:20:22
zuuuuu
And it was number six.
00:20:24
J Scoots
Six or seven. Yeah, I was going to guess six or seven. Okay.
00:20:27
zuuuuu
I'm looking at the fun episode title names too.
00:20:32
J Scoots
Well, I'm glad you bring that up because I was going to circle back to some of the anime references. So there's A specific title that I'll wait on. That is an obvious allusion to a very popular anime. That's one of my favorite animes. But I wanted to ask at the mention of Cara in the last episode we were discussing. The first time we see Cara when Jimmy meets her, did you catch the anime reference there with her outfit?
00:21:02
zuuuuu
like her like cur earth outfit?
00:21:02
J Scoots
It's a white, white, yeah, white t-shirt, black vest with jeans.
00:21:11
J Scoots
It might be Terra, but that's not the this is an anime-specific reference. Very, very popular anime.
00:21:17
zuuuuu
something Something about it had, like, I felt like I was missing something. The second that it came up on screen, I was like, this is really familiar.
00:21:25
zuuuuu
Like, what am I trying to compare this to? What am I missing?
00:21:29
J Scoots
Dragon Ball Z, Android 18, exact same outfit.
00:21:36
zuuuuu
That's amazing I could not put my finger on like why it looks so familiar Hold
00:21:37
J Scoots
Yeah, yeah, very, very cool.
00:21:41
J Scoots
Yup. Yup. That was one of my favorites. Uh, and then the title I was referring to was, uh, what is it?
00:21:48
J Scoots
Fool. It was not full metal out full metal, full metal science scientist.
00:21:52
zuuuuu
I full metal scientist I can I can go through all of them real quick cuz I
00:21:54
J Scoots
Yeah. It's okay. Instead of full of metal alchemist, full metal scientist. Yeah. Which was the, uh, the Henry irons, uh, the John Henry irons episode, right? Yeah.
00:22:03
zuuuuu
uh... yes i don't i don't get all of these uh...
00:22:04
J Scoots
Nice. yeah Let's go through them.
00:22:08
zuuuuu
references more things in heaven and earth okay
00:22:11
J Scoots
Uh, I can't say with confidence, uh, what that's a reference to. It sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't say with confidence.
00:22:20
zuuuuu
with my girlfriend i think that just kinda goes off of the show's name full metal scientist uh...
00:22:22
J Scoots
Self-referential.
00:22:24
zuuuuu
two lanes diverged
00:22:27
J Scoots
Two lanes diverged. I mean, that's the splitting between Lois and her dad, obviously, and then you have that in traffic. It might be a very shallow Robert Frost.
00:22:41
zuuuuu
Yeah, road not take, I was trying to find the exact line.
00:22:43
J Scoots
Yeah, the path was taken.
00:22:46
zuuuuu
Most eligible Superman, they said it, most eligible Bachelor.
00:22:52
zuuuuu
The machine who would be Empire. that The man who would be King.
00:22:55
J Scoots
The man who would be king. Yeah.
00:22:59
J Scoots
Oh, yep. That's a good one.
00:23:03
zuuuuu
Death of Clark Kent, I think it was just would be Death of Superman.
00:23:07
zuuuuu
I don't get Pierce the Heaven Superman.
00:23:10
J Scoots
No, that one's lost on me as well.
00:23:12
zuuuuu
and then just my adventures with Supergirl.
00:23:16
J Scoots
If I had to take a wild guess, I think maybe the two that we're not catching episode one and nine, those might be like Shakespearean or other, uh, like renowned literature or something like that.
00:23:31
J Scoots
I'm thinking. Yeah. If you know, let us know. What are we missing?
00:23:37
zuuuuu
Apparently there's a... comic series that's connected directly to the show.
00:23:44
J Scoots
I think I recall hearing about that, that it's got the direct involvement from the showrunner. Her name is escaping me. Let me see if I can pull that up.
00:23:52
zuuuuu
They stated that the comic series is an unproduced story in season one and it would connect emotionally with the second season.
00:24:01
J Scoots
Okay. Okay. Um, it looks like there are three show runners, Jake, Wyatt, Britton, Clower, and Josie Campbell.
00:24:10
J Scoots
I believe it's Josie Campbell that's connected to that, that comic.
00:24:14
zuuuuu
The address says Campbell.
00:24:18
zuuuuu
So much Wikipedia stuff.
00:24:23
zuuuuu
Am I trying to find a list that has like all the Easter eggs from the show too?
00:24:29
J Scoots
I think there are too many to even. Well, not to count, but there are a lot because. And some of them are just like really throw away.
00:24:42
zuuuuu
There were Star Labs references, which were cool.
00:24:46
zuuuuu
When we were in Clark's mind and they were going through the trials and stuff, like to see one of the lanterns was cool.
00:24:53
J Scoots
Oh, that's a great call.
00:24:53
zuuuuu
And one of one of Darkseid's demons, I forget what they're called.
00:24:54
J Scoots
Great call. Yeah.
00:25:00
J Scoots
Yeah, yeah, that was cool.
00:25:00
zuuuuu
So then it popped up and I was like, oh, is this all Darkseid stuff? And they showed the lantern ring and I was like, oh, this is really cool. but I couldn't figure out what that third beast was.
00:25:07
J Scoots
I think it was just a hawk person from Thanagar, a Thanagardian. Or are you talking about the thing with the white postules on its face?
00:25:16
zuuuuu
I don't remember the face. I remember Wings ended having like a like a spear or a staff of some sort.
00:25:21
J Scoots
Oh, yeah, that was definitely a Thanagardian.
00:25:24
zuuuuu
So somebody brought up that that could lead into Hawkman and Hawkgirl being an issue in the next season.
Clark and Lois Relationship Dynamics
00:25:31
J Scoots
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
00:25:32
zuuuuu
Maybe like the morning revenge on Supergirl or something and coming to Earth for that. And with both of them being a part of James Gunn's Superman too.
00:25:41
zuuuuu
This is an interesting tie-in with all of that, so ah ah I was intrigued with that reference.
00:25:47
J Scoots
Yeah, I like that. I like that. Yeah. The fact that we got a lantern this early on, that's, that's promising.
00:25:53
zuuuuu
Yeah, and then we got a but Star
00:25:56
zuuuuu
Did we get a Ferris error?
00:25:59
J Scoots
was that guy Hank Henshaw in, he was Star Labs. yeah he He was Star Labs.
00:26:03
zuuuuu
It was Star Labs, okay.
00:26:12
J Scoots
Uh, Silver Saint cloud in the bachelor episode, I guess she is a, a character.
00:26:17
J Scoots
Uh, she's usually a vigilante, uh, or she's usually and commonly in associate in association with the vigilante Batman. Uh, typically a romantic interest of Bruce Wayne.
00:26:32
J Scoots
So that's right.
00:26:32
zuuuuu
No shortage of those.
00:26:37
zuuuuu
Yeah, she was she was beefy.
00:26:40
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. She was a, uh, a tall glass of water.
00:26:44
zuuuuu
She was like, one of Themyscirans.
00:26:48
J Scoots
She, yeah, she, yeah, she was, uh, she was built. She had some calves. I recall she, what she tried to, I can't remember if she just got close to Clark or if she was like dancing with Clark, but yeah, I do remember specifically like seeing their physique side by side.
00:27:01
J Scoots
It's like, Oh, she's not, she's not.
00:27:02
zuuuuu
Yeah, because a lot of these characters are so short, like Lois and Kara are both pretty short. But then like you see Superman around them, so it's like he's just a big dude.
00:27:10
zuuuuu
but So the fact that she was like at his shoulder, like whispering in his ear, I was just like, good God.
00:27:17
J Scoots
Even, yeah, I think Lois's height. I don't want to say deficiency, but the fact that she's short was was highlighted with Vicky Val kind of like towering over to as they were like competing for scoops, just like, wow, this is a really petite version of of Lois.
00:27:31
zuuuuu
Oh, that was such a fun.
00:27:34
zuuuuu
Yeah, that was such a fun bit, though.
00:27:36
J Scoots
Oh, yeah, yeah, very good.
00:27:38
zuuuuu
I hate what it led up to about like.
00:27:41
zuuuuu
And they brought up the dialogue, too, where Lois was like, we don't talk anymore, and Clark's like, I've been trying like. You know, he tried to set the date, he tried to, you know, have these conversations like it's it's interesting how like Lois brings up the point that she's just a human and this and that, but it's like.
00:28:01
zuuuuu
if If you think that Clark's issues are so much bigger, then why are you not making the time to acknowledge them, right? like i for For her own explanation, it's like her what she's dealing with is she's making them smaller than they actually are, but then she's like prioritizing them over like other things that need to be brought up.
00:28:26
zuuuuu
like You could have been part of all this decision making and she just actively chose not to and she's a person who like marches to beat her own drum and is very you know forthcoming just wanting to attack every situation head on but there was times where it was just kind of like Lois my dude like you gotta to take a step back here sure
00:28:47
J Scoots
Yeah, yeah, no, for sure. Uh, I don't want to take sides or say it was, you know, any one person's fault because Clark made mistakes too. But I did find that the friction between them, the season and even the, the very short lived breakup, uh, I did fault Lois a little bit more than Clark.
00:29:04
J Scoots
And the I don't slight her for that because I think this season did a good job of, kind of pushing the envelope from what we saw in season one in terms of her relationship with her father.
00:29:14
J Scoots
Like that is a real. source of of trauma for her.
00:29:17
zuuuuu
That was so well done.
00:29:19
J Scoots
ah ah yeah Even the fact that like we knew she was a military brat, but the fact that she had to move pick up and move around so often and never really get to establish those roots. And now as an adult, she has this opportunity to move to Gotham, but she is able to do what her father never did and say, no, I want to you know commit to these people around me.
00:29:37
J Scoots
So that was that was a nice trajectory for a character I did find myself slightly frustrated with her with with certain points about halfway through the season but Continues to be one of my absolute favorite interpretations of Lois Lane Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah
00:29:48
zuuuuu
Yeah, I absolutely loved everything about her. It was just just the the way that certain things were handled in the relationship was the only thing. Everything else, it's just kind of like she's great. like no No heat on her whatsoever. Also, Clark could have held off on hitting the beacon. He didn't have to be like, oh, well, she doesn't want to talk about it. I'm just going to press it now.
00:30:08
J Scoots
That's true, yeah, no that, yeah. Oh yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
00:30:08
zuuuuu
So yeah, i won't I will say that they're all on both sides.
00:30:12
zuuuuu
But there was it was just the gung-ho nature when I'm just like, chill out. I know that's what makes you a great journalist, but chill out a little.
00:30:23
J Scoots
Yeah, for sure. All right, anything else you wanna say or should we open up
Listener Feedback on My Adventures with Superman
00:30:28
J Scoots
the floor to some feedback before we steal anybody's thunder?
00:30:33
zuuuuu
How did you feel about Cara's first ice cream tasting being mint chocolate chip?
00:30:43
J Scoots
Okay. I personally, I'm going to tread lightly here because I know people feel a certain way about mint chocolate chip. I like mint chocolate chip.
00:30:50
zuuuuu
They were very bold to pick that one.
00:30:53
J Scoots
I like mint chocolate chip, but it is not my favorite. It would never be my first choice. So, uh, I thought it was cute. And I thought, uh, it didn't really dawn on me until you, you, the way, for whatever reason, the way you, introduce the the topic. Yeah. I am reminded that it's kind of a nice compliment to that great moment in the Wonder Woman film.
00:31:13
J Scoots
but She's like, uh, she's no, the first one when they're like, in London, she's walking around with Steve Trevor and his assistant and they stop and get some ice cream.
00:31:14
zuuuuu
was the second one.
00:31:22
J Scoots
And she's like, you should be very proud.
00:31:25
zuuuuu
oh Oh yeah, that's right. That's right. That was adorable.
00:31:32
zuuuuu
In terms of the storytelling, I guess the last thing that I really want to hit is I love this combo of Brainiac and Supergirl being the villains. um Again, like you saw a lot of different personalities with Kara, but the fact that it got to it got to add to this world building of what Krypton was and what the warrior spirit was like like it was very Dragon Ball Z for me where it's like they have to you know finish they have to do this empire they have to conquer they have to have this warrior spirit so to see more of that but
00:32:14
zuuuuu
it be something that it's like her inner conflict and not who she is as a person because we got to see her interaction with Jimmy we got to see how she interacted in Kansas afterwards we got to see how she interacts with like having a sibling and just to be able to lighten up and have fun so it's like they did a great job of having balance with that character and not
00:32:32
zuuuuu
not turning her from a villain to a hero and it just not makes sense like they set up the seeds for like who she can actually be and were able to plant that very well as opposed to just being like a trope and i've been trying to think all day of like how to
00:32:53
zuuuuu
how to state the sentiment without it being so many puns, but I love Brainiac's abilities to just get into people's heads.
00:33:01
zuuuuu
The fact that it was like, how can I use how can I use your emotions against you? How can I use your mental state against you? What makes you tick? And the fact that they actually got to like, go back to it like this is working, this is not working, and like the fascination of of Brainiac ah unveiling of him you know being the one who actually destroyed Krypton and not being like this natural occurrence like he got sick of not wanting like he was like I was programmed this way I did not want to be turned off I have a personality I'm just gonna kill everybody and do things my way so an incredible job of how they develop that villain and executed it um it just fantastic work and I'm really excited to see what they do with Luther down the road
00:33:26
J Scoots
Right. Sure. Sure.
00:33:43
J Scoots
Yeah, yeah, I'm particularly excited to see how Lex factors into into ah into future seasons. But yeah you highlighted a couple of things there. um I'll start with the Brainiac stuff. Yeah, I agree with you. There have been various interpretations of of Brainiac across the comics, the TV shows, and
Listener Feedback on Batman: Caped Crusader
00:34:02
J Scoots
the video games. And this isn't the first time that we've seen Brainiac be kind of a construct of the the Kryptonians. but Yeah, I particularly liked that angle for him.
00:34:14
J Scoots
The fact that he was designed as a weapon and once he no longer had use, they throw him by the wayside.
00:34:18
zuuuuu
uh-huh yeah oh yeah
00:34:19
J Scoots
So in that sense, he kind of, it reminded me a little bit of, ah from the Marvel universe, the Kree, how they have their supreme intelligence, who is their AI that that guides them, but they have, they have deified That artificial intelligence were here that hasn't happened. It's just like, yeah, we use this tool, but and we're going to throw it by the wayside. um And you making the comparison to Dragon Ball Z, that did not occur to me, but I think that's wildly appropriate because it makes me go back to 2013 Man of Steel with some of those, you know, Kryptonian on Kryptonian fights like that is the live action DBZ I want to see, like do it like that.
00:34:54
J Scoots
But I was actually thinking because, you know, recency bias is probably a factor here, but I was thinking this version of the Kryptonians was a lot like the Viltromites from Invincible, even with like the white garb and everything like that.
00:35:06
J Scoots
Like, I don't think they have the same mean streak per se. Yes, they are a conquering nation, but it didn't seem like they were assimilating the societies quite as, quite as much as the Viltromites were, but
00:35:17
zuuuuu
okay and they have that they didn't have the the op thing that i don't like about those villains like i don't i don't like the how most people do superman and how they did viltromites where it's like there's only one thing that can stop them or they're damn near invincible how do we deal with it like
00:35:34
zuuuuu
I like when power levels make sense, but then the biggest DBZ comparison to me was that as soon as Kara and Kent started fighting, Clark was like, yeah, I don't want to fight, but if we do, I'm going to break this window and go out to where like nobody else can get hurt.
00:35:50
zuuuuu
Like that was a typical Goku thing of like, let's go out to the wilderness somewhere and go fight over there.
00:35:50
J Scoots
Yeah. Oh, for sure.
00:35:54
zuuuuu
And it's like, good job, buddy.
00:35:56
J Scoots
For sure, for sure.
00:35:57
zuuuuu
Goku would be proud.
00:36:03
J Scoots
All righty. I think I've said all I want to say unless you stirs.
00:36:06
zuuuuu
i'm sure i remember more up afterward on
00:36:08
J Scoots
Yeah. I was going to say stir something in my memory.
00:36:12
J Scoots
All right. Let's, uh, let's turn the attention to some listener feedback.
00:36:18
J Scoots
Uh, you want to kick things off with, or I guess I'll kick things off with, uh, in regards to my adventures with Superman, we've got one of our dedicated listeners, Andre Sparks, who has sent us a couple of pieces of feedback, but we'll start with his, my adventures with Superman feedback. And Andre says, Hey guys, I love the season. The Jimmy being rich was different and actually useful.
00:36:43
J Scoots
The Superman being disrespected by the people and Lex leading that was great. It was different from the way it's been done in the past. Plus Jimmy being treated as a... Plus, Jimmy being treated was a great twist. Lastly, the introduction of Brainiac was great. Best Brainiac since the Krypton show on sy on the sci-fi network. I've often thought of that series, but never watched it. Good to know. I definitely thought that they were about to introduce Saad when, ah okay, okay, you're on the same page as me. yeah When it ended up being Kara was just brilliant. Then her whole story was sad. I sort of hope that they do her movie like they did the show, because I think that would bring people in.
00:37:22
J Scoots
Lastly, the whole city saving Superman thing reminded me of the Spider-Man movie when the citizens helped Spider-Man. It was good and bad because it's been done before. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. Keep it up and glad you were back, Andre.
00:37:35
zuuuuu
He's on the same track for a lot of things. Also, the teaser, or the end credits scene of the last season actually was Brainiac.
00:37:48
J Scoots
Right, right. At that point, it just my guess was like that was armor like that helmet might have like opened up to reveal something. I didn't realize that was his head.
00:37:58
zuuuuu
Yeah, so it says at dinner flamethrower is a millionaire across the universe brainiac informs an armored Kryptonian warrior of the rebellious earth as a new planet to calm calm the undeterred warrior vows humanity will kneel.
00:38:12
zuuuuu
um So yeah, I guess I guess I see where Zod comes in.
00:38:16
J Scoots
Well, you know what that makes me realize is that Clark actually fought Cara in season one.
00:38:23
J Scoots
That was her in the armor.
00:38:28
J Scoots
Yeah. So you were right when you said, when we were talking about Ivo being the Kaiju, I don't think that was the final episode. I think that was like the penultimate or even maybe episode before that, but that was kind of like the big bad of the season.
00:38:41
J Scoots
And then I think in the final episode is when we had that that showdown with Kara on the armor before. Was it a tactical retreat? I can't remember exactly.
00:38:51
zuuuuu
Oh darn, I guess we gotta do a rewatch. Oh no. Yeah, episodes 8 and 9 were zero day.
00:39:06
zuuuuu
Hm. Clark... Eventual Ivo attacks Superman, but it inadvertently frees him. Flip eventually finds and takes him to safety. Clark believes he was sent to Earth to destroy it. Below is the surest of him otherwise.
00:39:23
zuuuuu
Metamorphosis citizens to turn off the power weakening Ivo. Yeah, that's that's like episode nine stuff Yeah, yeah just more Ivo stuff and Sam Lane Not that I saw I can check Instagram real quick before I forget I
00:39:30
J Scoots
Okay. All right. No.
00:39:40
J Scoots
Okay. Uh, did we have more my adventures feedback or, Uh, no, I, I think you're right. I was, I just, even though we discussed it but beforehand for some reason, I thought there was one other piece, but does not seem to be the case. So we can.
00:39:58
zuuuuu
I don't know why I forgot to check. This is a gram after telling people that's where they should reach out to us on. so so
00:40:05
J Scoots
Sorry. A two man team here. There's only so much we can do sometimes three.
00:40:14
zuuuuu
Sometimes. We that long piece from Brian Collins that I think we said that one ready.
00:40:27
zuuuuu
Yeah, we're good. Just, yeah.
00:40:31
J Scoots
All right. Well, in that case, we will stick with the DC animated stuff, but talk about a different show.
Future of DC Animated Shows and Final Thoughts
00:40:40
J Scoots
I will kick it off with Andre Sparks returning to give us some Cape Crusader feedback. And Andre says, hey, guys, I'm glad you're back.
00:40:52
J Scoots
So I finished Batman Cape Crusader last week and listened to your feedback. So the show was slow, but I appreciated what they were trying to do. They definitely were leaning into the detective Batman angle. The focus on the criminal underworld reminded me of the Matt Reeves, the Batman movie, which makes sense because he's the producer. I was confused with Barbara being a lawyer and older than Dick, but it is what it is. Bruce, I love the fact that he transitions from talking about Dick to calling Bruce being a Dick. Sorry. That just got me. That got me. All right. so
00:41:26
J Scoots
Bruce being a dick to Alfred was off putting, but when they showed the flashback of him turning as a child to a boy full of revenge, it sort of made sense that he would only see Alfred as a tool for him to use. I'm glad he started to change at the end though. What do you want to see in season two specific villain or storyline Andre?
00:41:45
zuuuuu
So before we get to that, I just looked it up and the penguin comes out in less than a week.
00:41:51
J Scoots
Oh yeah. Yeah. it's
00:41:53
J Scoots
Next week is going to be crazy. We got Agatha dropping and the penguin. Yeah.
00:41:56
zuuuuu
Oh shit, that too?
00:42:01
J Scoots
TV's back, baby.
00:42:03
zuuuuu
Yeah, that's that's going to be a good Marvel DC matchup. Like I doubt like significantly better than the other.
00:42:10
zuuuuu
But like it's just it's cool that both of them are coming out at the same time. And it's they're both going to be really interesting storytelling.
00:42:15
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. I think they're going to be very different flavors too. You got one being a pipey pulpy crime noir. The other one being a spooktacular musical assaults. ha
00:42:29
zuuuuu
Yeah. I think on the the fantasy for our patrons, we're going to be doing like a and like a premiere feedback type of thing where me and Saraday talk about it and then have the listeners talk so do like an early points projection thing and then maybe just cover it afterwards.
00:42:47
zuuuuu
So excited to do that.
00:42:49
zuuuuu
But coming back to Cape Crusader, did we see Dick Grayson at all?
00:42:52
J Scoots
Well, that was that episode, I think it was called Nocturna, where the circus or carnivals in town and you had the the two young boys, one of them was named Dick, the other one was named not Tim, but Jason.
00:43:08
J Scoots
And then the the girl's name was Carrie.
00:43:10
zuuuuu
Yeah, I wasn't sure if they were just going for references or if that was like actually supposed to be Dick Grayson.
00:43:14
J Scoots
Unclear at this point. Yeah.
00:43:16
zuuuuu
Yeah. So I guess it is interesting that we have like a full grown Barbara then grace and being
00:43:23
zuuuuu
possibly that much younger.
00:43:26
zuuuuu
But this really doesn't seem like the type of Batman that's willing to work with people like it took so much just for her to him to work with Barbara throughout this one season.
00:43:35
zuuuuu
So I'd be I'd be interested to see how when and even if they start introducing sidekicks into the show because I just I just don't see it happening the way that it went across.
00:43:47
J Scoots
If they do it in a season two, I would imagine it would be in the last like third or quarter because the show seems pretty dead set on on depicting an early solo Batman.
00:44:01
J Scoots
so But in terms of Andre's question for villains, I really didn't have to think about this one very much because I was actually a little surprised we didn't see him in season one. And as much as I loved the Clayface episode and getting to see how they they worked with that villain in the had this 1930s kind of setting, one of my favorite Batman villains, he might, yeah you know, on any given day it could change. Usually it's the Joker. I mean, how can it not be the Joker? but I am a strong advocate for, uh, the scarecrow.
00:44:34
J Scoots
I i love the scarecrow.
00:44:35
J Scoots
I think he's one of Batman's best villains. Batman uses fear as a tool. So does the scarecrow. I think they're just, you know, great, uh, great sides of the same coin.
00:44:46
J Scoots
So I would love to see how they they utilize that fear toxin with the, uh, the time period and setting.
00:44:52
zuuuuu
Yeah, that could be really fascinating. My mind went straight to Riddler, but I think it's just because same creator.
00:44:59
zuuuuu
So I'm wondering if they just don't want to like repeat too much of the same story from a more recent movie.
00:45:06
zuuuuu
But what I would really like to see is Mr. Freeze with the actual story of him trying to like, you know, keep his wife
00:45:15
zuuuuu
I think that's a really intimate and deep story, and with this timeline, with like that that romantic setting, I think there's a lot to play with there.
00:45:25
J Scoots
Yeah, yeah. Well, a lot of people have said that, you know, the series feels like a spiritual successor and kind of continuation to that, you know, nineties animated Batman series, even though that show had its own spinoffs, like the new adventures of Batman and what have you, uh,
00:45:41
J Scoots
in that show, the Mr. Freeze storyline is still loud. It's just like one of the best interpretations of that character.
00:45:47
J Scoots
I think it's called Heart of Ice. Yeah, so yeah, given Bruce Timm's connections to the series, I would love, I like both of those call outs actually. I like Mr. Freeze a lot because of the same reason.
00:45:58
J Scoots
I mentioned Scarecrow. I would love to see how they're like, hey, how are we going to make this guy work in the 1930s? But then even with Riddler having appeared recently in Matt Reeves movie, I do think that this show would kind of relish with the the noir and the detective bent like the Riddler is a really good character for him to go toe to toe with.
00:46:16
zuuuuu
And they did a really good job with them in the movie, so...
00:46:22
zuuuuu
I can't remember the whole line.
00:46:28
zuuuuu
I'm gonna watch that movie tonight.
00:46:29
zuuuuu
I've been telling myself I need to watch it again just because it's so good.
00:46:32
zuuuuu
And if Penguin's coming out in less than a week, then yeah.
00:46:34
J Scoots
Yeah. If there was a, yeah, if there was a time to do it, now's the time to do it.
00:46:38
zuuuuu
Yeah, that'll be my movie night tonight.
00:46:39
zuuuuu
My gamer friends haven't responded yet, so I guess that decided it for me.
00:46:42
J Scoots
Yeah. our All right, well, but last couple of pieces of feedback here. We got our last one from Andre that I'll i'll read real quickly. It's a pretty short one. He says, Hey, hey Netflix's Blue Eye Samurai beat Marvel Animation X-Men at the 2024 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program. Did you guys yeah did you guys watch Blue Eye Samurai? Did it deserve to to beat X-Men 97 or is this a huge miss?
00:47:11
J Scoots
Now to to clarify, Andre's feedback here was the creative Emmy Awards that took place last weekend. Now, the main Emmy Awards will be taking place this Sunday at the time of this.
00:47:23
J Scoots
oh By the time this comes out, they will probably already have have have happened.
00:47:26
zuuuuu
Yeah, that's probably gonna drop on Monday.
00:47:26
J Scoots
but Yeah. Yeah. So usually the creative ones are a little more, uh, technical. So I, I, as much as I love X-Men 97 and the animation style and how it harkens back to that, uh, that 90 series so well while updating it, I can understand why blue eyed Sam or I, uh, took, took the cake this this time around with the just stylization and uniqueness of the animation and the use of cell shading.
00:47:58
J Scoots
to to weave the epic tale that it does and the emotional tale that it does. In this instance, i it does not feel like a slight to X-Men 97 to me. I do think that Blue-Eyed Samurai is deserving of of the praise, not only technically, but from a a voice acting and a narrative perspective as well.
00:48:17
J Scoots
I hate the fact that I was late to the game because I heard people heaping so much praise upon it. But when I finally did, i was I was telling you off air, but when I finally did sit down to watch it, I ended up watching it in the span of like two or three days.
00:48:31
J Scoots
And they're not short episodes. They're like, they're all 45 minutes to an hour, if not longer. So that's my two cents.
00:48:39
zuuuuu
Yeah, you said, I haven't watched the show yet, so I can't really offer too much insight on that. But one of my biggest issues with X-Men 97 was just like the stakes. So it's like, it's great that the nostalgia was there. It's great that it was part of Marvel animation and something Disney Plus could benefit off of. if you can't maintain a tone for storytelling, then like Myth.
00:49:02
zuuuuu
There's only so much you can do. So if you're competing with you know something that people are claiming has a great animation style and consistent storytelling, it's it's gonna be the story that's what's going to engage you more than anything.
00:49:14
zuuuuu
So yeah, you know congrats to them for doing as well as they did. And it's definitely a little more on my radar now.
00:49:20
J Scoots
It's all we ask.
00:49:24
zuuuuu
Alright, so we got one more for Cave Crusader. This was kind of a lengthy one, so I'm going to speed read a little bit.
00:49:30
zuuuuu
I apologize for that, but we're kind of hitting that hour mark, so definitely don't want to leave it out, but this one's going to be quick.
00:49:39
zuuuuu
Alright so this one was from jithandjacobs sent us an email. Hey guys welcome back I missed my animation podcast and had no one to listen to about anime and animation for a while there. I'm sorry for the long email and I know this can't be read on the podcast but once I start I can't stop.
00:49:52
zuuuuu
I'm liking the current format of covering a whole season of a show rather than individual episodes because sometimes not all episodes need a full show.
00:49:58
zuuuuu
And I usually binge shows which makes this a perfect format. And if there's too much to talk about in the span of a few episodes, you can cover a few episodes or a arc at a time like your coverage of early seasons of Young Justice and Attack on Titan. Speaking of Young Justice, do you think the show will ever come back? And staying in the DC lane, I didn't know that there was a new Batman animated show until I saw your episode on it and I loved DC animation so I checked it out. When I listened to your opinions of the shows and episodes, usually I agree with you guys and most of the time with the occasional difference in opinions, but this was the first time I've had the opposite opinion on everything major you guys talked about on the show.
00:50:28
zuuuuu
he sorry One of the comments you had about the show was its slow pacing. Zuhar said that even though he fell asleep during his watch, albeit retiring days, congratulations on the new business and good luck. Thank you. You also said that you felt like it wasn't important to hit play on the next episode. For me, it was a complete opposite experience. One of the main things I loved about the show was the slow pacing and it fit the world in the 1920s where everything didn't feel as fast paced as the modern world.
00:50:50
zuuuuu
The time period also allowed the story to progress in different ways on how it would have happened in the modern era. I also have a love for noir settings, and Batman set in the 1920s fits better than being set in modern times, I agree.
00:51:01
zuuuuu
honestly also Even though the show felt episodic and self-contained like Batman the Animated Series, always want to I always wanted to watch the next episode to see more of the world they were creating. I've maybe only caught a few episodes of Batman the Animated Series as a kid, but the show makes me want to watch that show. My one con, or rather cons, about the show is the changes they made to the iconic villain like Penguin, Harley Quinn, and Harvey Dent. Genderbending the Penguin didn't feel like it brought enough to the table to deserve that change. I understand the concept behind it.
00:51:30
zuuuuu
being that most people wouldn't suspect a woman in their time barrier to be a crime lord and be as ruthless as she is, especially with her cover of being the lounge singer, but one episode wasn't enough to showcase anything creatively unique that justified the change. Having Harley Quinn, whose origin is intertwined with the Joker, become a villain on her own in making her gay makes it feel like her and the Joker won't be put together in the future which doesn't gel with the original character. But I do like that her origin is her trying to meet out her version of Justice League of...excuse me. But I do like that her origin is her trying to meet out her version of Justice and being more psychological than physical like the live action movies.
00:52:13
zuuuuu
I'm also excited to see the darker possibly more brutal Joker. This feels like a good change to the character but on the on the one side I didn't like the idea that he was an asshole and a bit dirty as Harvey Dent. Modern Dent is someone who Batman considered an ally and Bruce as the best friend. And this version didn't feel like either. But I do love the fact that he did have his morals to sacrifice himself to save Barbara because after being an ally of Batman I never loved Dent going over to the dark side. This way he got a worthy death.
00:52:42
zuuuuu
and Scottie I didn't notice that they switched up which side of the face had which personality that's also neat. You also felt like the change in the attitude of Batman towards Alfred was unearned in the end but my take on it is that over the course of the show Batman learned to let other people in and helping him in keeping Gotham safe and so made Alfred part of the team rather than just a foot man. I loved the rest of the show and the actor of voicing Batman definitely did a good job emulating Conroy and fit the noir aesthetic. I'm definitely looking forward to the next season and hope you guys watch as well regards Jits and Jacob.
00:53:14
J Scoots
Thank you, Justin. Yeah, there's a lot to unpack there.
00:53:19
J Scoots
I'm hesitant because I want to give you a second to catch your breath here after all that reading.
00:53:23
J Scoots
But what stuck out to me was a question that I i definitely defer to you. he He asked, do we expect to see Young Justice again? And I have been privileged. I have been spoiled in my viewing of Young Justice.
00:53:34
J Scoots
I never had to wait. Years on end for the return of the show unlike my my friend here's your hair So I ask you as the experienced young justice watcher who's had to To you know go through that experience. What do what do you think about the return of the the possible return of the show?
00:53:50
zuuuuu
Young Justice is my attack on Titan dude like four freaking years between every season.
00:53:56
zuuuuu
I think it will make a return at some point. I think all of, and Young Justice have been a victim to this since it started, and its studio changes, right?
00:54:06
zuuuuu
It went from being a Cartoon Network thing to a DC Universe thing to an HBO Max thing, now Discovery bought them, so what's their priority level?
00:54:15
zuuuuu
I think at some point the fans will want Young Justice to come back, but I also feel like last season wasn't as strong as the first two. Um, and I I hate to it
00:54:26
J Scoots
three, or just, did you mean to say first two?
00:54:30
zuuuuu
first two I feel like was the strongest and then it just kind of like leveled out a little bit from there like there were great seasons but I don't think it held the standard of one and two in my opinion so I feel like because it kind of had a little bit of a slowdown the fans voices just aren't as strong as they used to be I feel like at some point they could be in a little they one or two things gonna happen they're either gonna be in a rut and they're gonna bring it back because they need content
00:54:32
J Scoots
Okay. I think that's fair. I think it's fair. I think it's fair. No, I'm i'm with you.
00:54:56
zuuuuu
Or the new DC Universe is going to do so good that they're going to be making more spin-offs off of that and more animated stuff focused on that. So that might push Young Justice back even further.
00:55:08
zuuuuu
So at this point in time, like I hate to say, I can't even remember what last season was about and like what the, what was the cliffhanger?
00:55:16
zuuuuu
What was something that we're supposed to be looking forward to like?
00:55:19
J Scoots
I don't remember as many cliffhangers, but I remember the big thrust was Superboy was trapped in the Phantom Zone, Zod got let free, and Zod's son from the future was a real problem.
00:55:38
zuuuuu
Yeah, Phantoms was the name of it. So yeah, I would obviously love to see it come back. It's great storytelling, but I just I don't know where DC's priorities are. So even if it is something in the works, it's not something I see coming in the next year or two.
00:55:54
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. I think that's fair, but you know, don't, don't lose heart. There are certainly a DC animated projects to look forward to. We just talked about a couple of them here between my adventures and Superman.
00:56:05
J Scoots
Uh, Batman, the Cape crusader was renewed for a second season. I don't know that we ever talked about that on the show. Uh, but then also, yeah.
00:56:12
zuuuuu
And it's already in talks for a third, like I was reading about that today on Twitter.
00:56:17
J Scoots
Well, add creatures, creature commandos is coming out in December. I think we got an official release date for that. So let me pull that up. I want to say that's part of the DC.
00:56:24
zuuuuu
Is that part of the new universe or was that something else?
00:56:28
J Scoots
That is part of James guns.
00:56:29
zuuuuu
That's what's kicking it off, right?
00:56:31
J Scoots
Yeah, that is the, the first official foray and that comes out.
00:56:39
J Scoots
December 5th is when the first episodes start.
00:56:42
J Scoots
Yeah. December 5th through January 16th. So not that far off and it is a part of chapter one of the DCU gods and monsters.
00:56:55
J Scoots
Yeah. Yeah. What else did Jithin bring up here? The Harley Quinn thing. So i'm all I'm of two minds on that one. I agree with its I agree with the parts that you agreed with me about, I guess. But I say that tongue in cheek entirely. I'm open to different opinions and everything like that. But oh one thing Jithin said, Jithin, you said was,
00:57:23
J Scoots
with her being gay, that that kind of rules out the possibility that she'll be with the Joker in the future. And while I am fully enjoying this independent, uh, free of the Joker version of Harley, I don't, I don't know that she's necessarily gay.
00:57:37
J Scoots
She might be bisexual while she did show overt attraction to, uh, you know, uh, what's her name, not Barbara, the other, uh, cop, uh, Reyes, not Reyes.
00:57:57
J Scoots
You, uh, whatever it's, it's, it's not coming to me, but that, okay.
00:57:59
zuuuuu
looking it up, see if you keep going.
00:58:01
J Scoots
Thank you. Once, when I hear the name, I'm going to like kick myself because, uh, she's pure, she's popped up in so many things. She was in birds of prey. She was in, uh, the dark night.
00:58:12
J Scoots
Montoya, there it is, Renee Montoya. While Harley did show a strong attraction to her, I don't think it's it's been ruled out that she's only into women. She could be into guys as well, so the door is still open. We may have a ah Harley Joker relationship of sorts.
00:58:32
zuuuuu
Yeah. I, I, I'm indifferent about the, the penguin thing. I kind of agree that it was just like, you made a decision, but excuse me.
00:58:48
zuuuuu
It didn't add to the character didn't take away from the character. So I really don't care.
00:58:53
J Scoots
Well, the one thing he said that i I do, it didn't dawn on me in the moment, but I do think it adds to the character with the setting.
00:59:00
J Scoots
The fact that she was a woman makes her less, yeah, makes her less of a suspect.
00:59:00
zuuuuu
Less suspecting and when that, yeah.
00:59:03
J Scoots
Yeah, I think that's that's an angle, but yeah.
00:59:05
zuuuuu
Because originally it's like the fact that he's like all crippled and everything that he's unsuspecting. So now it's like, okay, she's a woman, so she's not so if I do wish fits for that time frame.
00:59:10
J Scoots
Right, right, right, right.
00:59:13
zuuuuu
So it's like, okay, I guess it worked in that regard. before that realization, I guess it was just, I don't care and added and take away, but that's a good way to validate it, I guess.
00:59:22
J Scoots
I mean, yeah, it was fine.
00:59:28
zuuuuu
Yeah, I mean, i I like to spin on Harley Quinn. I like that it was just she was a wacky psychologist that kept her composure and decided to go the path of torture methods and
00:59:41
zuuuuu
Joker had nothing to do with it and all of that. I just thought it was brilliant. That was probably like my favorite decision that they made in the whole show. So, yeah, to each their own. I think it's really cool that this show did so much that people could have altering opinions.
00:59:55
zuuuuu
And at the end of the day, we all liked it and want to watch a season two. So despite the the differences in perspectives and stuff, yeah, to, to each their own, glad everyone got to enjoy it in their own way.
01:00:10
zuuuuu
Yeah, I don't know how much more I have to add to that. This is like a sit over a coffee and have a conversation more than like read an email and like conflict with it.
01:00:20
J Scoots
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:00:21
zuuuuu
Let you find out for the next two years, like we're just waiting for emails to like respond to reading out of the podcast.
01:00:27
J Scoots
well Well, to his credit, Justin said he didn't expect us to read the the feedback on the podcast, but you know, you wrote it.
01:00:34
J Scoots
We're going to read it. So, uh, were we going to hit any other feedback or is, uh, are we, uh,
01:00:43
J Scoots
Okay, cool. All right, then we will bring this one to a close. Would you like to let the people know what else do you have going on around the internet? And what other other parts?
01:00:53
zuuuuu
Yeah, so now that NFL season is back, I'll be back on the 3-2-3 with Reed Murphy. We actually had a a ah sports bar in Richmond host us for watching one of the games live, so that was really cool. We were talking to other fans that were in the area, just coming with like random bits and stuff. all of that is on YouTube now you see my reactions like watching the game while we're trying to do a show and stuff but yeah to start off every week and wrap up like our thoughts on all the games and stuff it's like Thursdays and Mondays you should be seeing episodes Fridays and Mondays you should be seeing episodes
01:01:27
zuuuuu
that'll be a weekly thing. my episode with Peeves Gap that should be recording sometime either know this month or next to talk about Prisoner Azkaban as me being someone who only watched the movies growing up and reading the books for the first time.
01:01:46
zuuuuu
Yeah, and then if you guys could, if you're on Instagram, check out Upright Exposures. That is my real estate photography business. I have like content and stuff going up every day, so obviously likes help get the word out there and it's a portfolio that I'm starting to be really proud of. So if you guys could show your support and love for that, that would be great.
01:02:06
J Scoots
Awesome. Awesome. As for me, Multiverse News is the show on the Stranded Panda Network where we talk about the latest and greatest happening in the world of entertainment news, be that TV shows, be ah that streaming series all focused on our favorite fictional favorite fictional franchises. And I mentioned that I went to DragonCon. So while I was at DragonCon, I got to interview a reasonably sized YouTube channel called Star Wars Explained. So that interview, once I edit it, that's going to be hitting the multiverse newsfeed. So I will repeat that in various places. But if everybody could support me by making sure we get as many eyeballs and clicks and likes on that, that will, you know,
01:02:49
J Scoots
just be further evidence for next year. They'll give us even bigger and better DragonCon, hopefully. Beyond that, on Bill and Ashley's Terry Theater, we're going to be doing a kind of double feature talking about the 2022 Danish film, Speak No Evil, as well as the American remake that just came out that stars a ah very scary James McAvoy. So looking forward to checking that out. If that's your speed, check it out wherever you get your podcast.
01:03:14
zuuuuu
It's one of those things where it's like, I don't typically watch horror movies. It's because it's James back of like, really want to see it.
01:03:19
J Scoots
Oh, he's so good. He's so good in it. And it's, it's, it's really not that scary. I have to be careful when I say that because things don't scare me as bad as they scare other people. But I, I think I can objectively say this one's not.
01:03:27
zuuuuu
That sounds like I don't believe you.
01:03:35
J Scoots
All right, my friend, anything else?
01:03:38
J Scoots
All right. Well, thanks for tuning in. That's T double O and I N.
01:03:42
zuuuuu
And as always, stay well.
